Passyunk Avenue, Vanilya Bakery will celebrate its grand opening this Friday, April 25, with an assortment of cookies, cheesecake, flourless chocolate cake, panacotta, tiramisu, and tapioca. Vanilya, which is Turkish for vanilla and specially named after the pastry chef/owner’s favorite baking ingredient, is the perfect place for gourmet baked goods, as well as specialty cakes, cookies, and cupcakes for all occasions.

“Our hand-decorated cookies are custom-made and baked to order without the use of preservatives,” says pastry chef and owner, Bonnie Sarana Noll, a 2008 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. “We can take any photo, logo, or business card image and transfer it to the top of our freshly baked sugar cookies. These cookies make a great impression whether it’s for business, favors for a wedding, bridal or baby shower, or birthday party.”

It all began with a sweet tooth and a dream. In March of 2007, Bonnie left the world of finance, packed her bags and headed to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. Having the time of her life and learning the tools to make her dream become a reality, Vanilya Bakery was born in November 2009. The inspiration for Vanilya is the Turkish translation of the word vanilla, Bonnie’s love of the flavor, and the orchid plant from which it comes.
